The ability and the willingness to follow the master are some of the attributes of a good disciple. No one can truly serve the master that he/she is not willing to follow.
A. Jesus Reinstated Peter (John 21:15-19)
Peter had promised to lay than his life for Jesus before now. But at a point we saw that Peter denied Him. (Jesus). After the pattern of questioning, answering and giving of an assignment had been repeated three times, (John 21:15-17), Jesus told Peter, ‘Follow me’.
1. Discuss why Jesus repeatedly asked Peter if he (Peter) loves Him more than these. Could it be lack of trust on the part of Jesus?
B. Jesus’ Answer to Peter Question (John 21:20-25)
Jesus’ answer to Peter’s question concerning the beloved disciple reminds us that our life plans are in the Lord’s hands. What matters is not whether we are martyred for Christ or keep serving Christ into old age. What really matters is that we are following Christ and that we are in the Lord’s will.
1. What are the implications of not following Christ? Discuss the benefits of following Christ.
