OUR SAVIOUR'S CHAPEL,DELSU,ABRAKA Our Motto: Towards Maturity in Christ (Eph 4.13)

DATE: JULY 2, 2023

TOPIC: THE CREATING WORD BECOMES FLESH

DEVOTIONAL READING: John 1:1-14

LESSON SCRIPTURE: John 1:1-14

INTRODUCTION

God created the world with the word even everything on earth. The Word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus is the Word made flesh and lives in us. The Word of God is powerful. Our attention as believers should be focused on the Word of God all the time.

THE LESSON EXPLAINED

A. The Potency of the Creating Word Made Flesh (John 1:1-11).

Jesus is the Word of God and Jesus is God, the creator of all things. Jesus was the personality that existed from the beginning and was with God even in creation. The Word was God Himself. The Word was life and the life was the light of men (John 1:1-5). The light shines against darkness and darkness comprehended it not. Even till today, the life of Jesus is still shinning as light against the darkness of this world but the wicked have refused to recognize Him. For believers to have dominion over every form of darkness on earth, we must have the life of Jesus Christ which the kingdom of darkness cannot overcome.

DISCUSSION TIME

⦁ Verse 5: discuss its implication for victorious Christian living.

⦁ How did the word become the source of life to humanity?

B. Rewards of Receiving the Word (John 1:12-14).`

Jesus is the light of the world, yet He was not recognized by the world; even by His people as they did not receive Him. John declared in verse 12 that those who received and believed in Jesus Christ were permitted to become children of God. Consequent upon their faith, God becomes their Father. Hence the Word (Christ) became flesh, full of grace and truth and lived among them, even as the glory of God becomes visible among them (verse 14). When believers accept Jesus as their Lord and personal Saviour, they attain new life and will experience Christ unfailing love and faithfulness.

DISCUSSION TIME

⦁ Verse 8; what does the word ‘witness’ mean to believers?

⦁ How can believers be true reflection of The Word?

⦁ Mention some hinderances to the spread of the Word in our contemporary time.

Points to Note from the Lesson

⦁ Believers should always focus attention on the Word of God.

⦁ When we face terrible challenge, we should remember the power of the Word and declare it regularly.

⦁ Christians must never loose focus on the creating word made flesh (Jesus).

Memory Verse:

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3
