OUR SAVIOUR'S CHAPEL,DELSU,ABRAKA Our Motto: Towards Maturity in Christ (Eph 4.13)

DATE: DECEMBER 10, 2023

TOPIC: ZECHARIAH SPEAKS

DEVOTIONAL READING: Malachi 4:1-6

LESSON SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:57-66; 76-79

INTRODUCTION

The fanfare and celebrations that attends the naming of a new born baby was near absent until the miracle of gaining the ability to speak again by Zechariah. The result of this was the double joy of the family that day.

THE LESSON EXPLAINED

A. A Promise Fulfilled (Luke 1:57-66)

One of the things that distinguishes God from man is that His promises are sure. The prophecies through the Angel to Zechariah concerning the birth of John the Baptist came to pass. God usually sets an appointed time to fulfill all His promises. The challenge therefore is that we should be optimistic about the promises of God though they may seem delayed but because God has said it, it must come to pass.

DISCUSSION TIME

• Compare and contrast what happens in contemporary naming with what happened in the naming of John the Baptist.

B. Zechariah Prophecy (Luke 1:76-79)

Immediately Zechariah was able to speak again, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he started to prophesy about the mission of his son John. God has never stopped talking to His people either for warning, rebuke or punishment. The testimony is that John faithfully carried out his task of preparing the people to receive the Saviour through confession of their sins, repentance and baptism.

DISCUSSION TIME

• God usually sets an appointed time to fulfill His promises.

• God speaks to His people.

Points to Note from the Lesson

• God will always keep His promises

• Faith begets miracles

Memory Verse:

“And you, my child will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him.” Luke 1:76.
