TOPIC: DAVID’S PRAYER

DEVOTIONAL READING: Psalm 89:19-37

LESSON SCRIPTURE: 1 Chronicles 17:16-27

INTRODUCTION

Prayer is seen as a veritable tool for accessing the blessings of God. It is believed as one sure way to drawing God’s attention when employed in an appropriate manner. There are basic ingredients of prayer that makes it efficacious. David was skillful enough to bring these to bare in his prayer.

THE LESSON EXPLAINED

A. David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving (1 Chronicles 17:16-19)

David’s prayer of thanksgiving came as a result of God’s promise to build for him a dynasty that will last forever. He expressed a sigh of humility that he did not merit the favour shown to him and his family. Therefore, David’s attitude of thanksgiving should motivate us to always show gratitude to God for what He has done, what He is doing and the wonderful things He is yet to do.

DISCUSSION TIME

• Mention some promises God has made to you and your family members and how you have shown gratitude to Him.

B. David’s Appeal to God (1 Chronicles 17:23-27)

David made special appeal concerning his house which God promised to establish forever - V.24. He had the courage to make this appeal to God because He had revealed everything to him concerning His plan to make his descendants King to Him. He was courageous enough to approach and appeal to Him to fulfill His promises concerning him and his descendants.

DISCUSSION TIME

• What does David’s prayer reveal to us about God?

Points to Note from the Lesson

• God hears the prayers of the humble

• We must be ready to acknowledge God’s ability to do all things

• God has plans and purpose for us all
